Civil Rights
A civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives rise to an action for injury. Discrimination occurs when the civil rights of an individual are denied or interfered with because of their membership in a particular group or class. Statutes have been enacted to prevent discrimination based on a person’s race, sex, religion, age, previous condition of servitude, physical limitation, and national origin and in some instances sexual preference. Our firm believes strongly in the sanctity of civil rights and advocate vigorously to protect our client’s interest.
Family Law
Our firm has experience in producing favorable outcomes for our clients in divorces, post-divorce matters, child support, custody & visitation, prenuptial agreements, maintenance, business valuations, unmarried couples, domestic violence and adoption. In addition, in combination with our meditation focus our firm strongly believes in Collaborative Law and seeks to find “common ground” resolutions first before more traditional and more combative actions are taken.
Community Economic Development Law
The primary focus of this practice is to facilitate community and economic development through law--specifically, practicing and lobbying in the areas of affordable housing and job creation by representing for-profit and non-profit developers, lenders, investors, community development corporations, faith-based community economic development initiatives and foundations. Our firm helps our clients utilize “program-related investments” and laws that help fund community and economic development projects. Examples of “program-related investments” and laws include the Community Development Block Grant Program, National Historic Trust’s Main Street Program, New Market Tax Credit Program, and the Community Reinvestment Act.
General Business Law
Our firm offers services ranging from advice regarding the selection of a business entity (i.e., corporation, partnership, LLC), searching and filing business name trademarks, forming business entities, preparing and filing corporate documents required by the government, drafting and negotiating business contracts, intellectual property and technology licenses, and business management documents (i.e., LLC operating agreements, partnership agreements, employment agreements, bylaws, etc.), providing basic tax advice, general financial planning regarding obtaining capital (i.e., angel investors, venture capitalists, equity and debt securities), and drafting and negotiating financing contracts.
Personal Injury
Our firm is dedicated to assisting victims in all types of personal injury matters including auto accidents, work-site accidents, product injuries, drug and medication injuries, home health and nursing home negligence. The firm is committed to recovering all adequate damages to allow our client to resume a normal life.
Native American Law
Our firm is prepared to work on a wide range of legal matters on behalf of federally-recognized Native Nations, Indian tribes, tribal business enterprises, authorities and commissions, and non-Native American entities interacting with federally-recognized Native Nations -- including in such areas as business and economic development, commercial transactions, real estate, taxation, gaming, citizenship issues and implementation, trust responsibility and natural resources.
Mediation
Mediation is a process whereby a neutral third party facilitates negotiations between two or more people about a disputed matter. Our firm strongly believes in this less confrontational form of conflict resolution. Our mediators intervene upon the parties’ negotiations process, including establishing goals, differentiating goals from issues, developing options, recognizing consequences, improving communication, and/or reconciling relationships.
Governmental Affairs
Our firm helps both corporate and government clients navigate a wide range of legal and public policy matters, including litigation and administrative appeals; land use and zoning; telecommunications; health care and insurance regulation; government procurement and contracting; licensing and permitting; legislative strategy; regulatory rulemaking; open records; state and local taxation; and government ethics and political campaign finance law.
Sports Law
Our firm offers a wide variety of services associated with the sports industry -- assisting athletes and institutions in eligibility determinations; providing advice and guidance on the rules, regulations and laws under which sports entities are required to operate; and representing athletes and institutions in connection with reinstatement issues and eligibility appeals through professional, collegiate, and interscholastic administrative processes. In addition, we provide basic financial planning advice and guidance, as well as access to top professional accountants, business managers, investment advisors, tax lawyers, and other financial advisors. We provide training and supporting materials on legal issues in sports, such as discrimination, recruiting, eligibility, agent, and employment issues to management personnel, staff and/or student-athletes. We provide career transition and placement for athletes no longer competing in their sport.
